About
I'm a Software Engineer residing in Chicago, IL. I currently work for the Elicieri Lab (LOCI) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where I actively develop ImageJ2/Fiji and Micro-Manager. I'm interested in writing software that empowers integration and accessibility, particularly in the scientific domain.
Career
I joined the Eliceiri lab as a starry-eyed high school graduate in the summer of 2017. At that time, Professor Kevin Eliceiri was looking to bring an undergraduate on to the Fiji team to work on ImageJ Ops, a library for declarative image processing. I happily jumped on, working on ImageJ Ops and its successor SciJava Ops for parts of the next seven years. I could not have asked for better formative years in my career under the guidance of Curtis Rueden, who I still have the pleasure of working with today.
I received my Bachelor's Degree in 2021, but remained (this will become a trend) in the Elicieri lab as I pursued my Master's degree. As a Master's Student I wrote napari-imagej, a napari plugin enabling interoperability with the entire Fiji ecosystem.
After receiving my Master's Degree in 2023, I transitioned to a full-time Software Engineer role in the Elicieri lab. While I still enjoy a position on the Fiji team, I now focus on software for image acquisition. In particular, I work on pymmcore-plus, and hope I'll eventually become familiar with the C++ core of Micro-Manager. For now, I get to leave that pleasure to the brilliant Mark Tsuchida.
